Webestate
I have always considered domain names (whatever.com or whoever.net) to be the web equivalent of real estate properties. Hence the reason I lovingly call them webestates. I’ve always seen them as a potential means of making lots of money.
As confirmation of this, yesterday I came across this older article from usatoday.com that confirms just that. As examples, blue.com was sold for $500,000 and sex.com was sold for $12 Million dollars. Some domains were bought from others at a small premium and some were bought from network solutions or godaddy anywhere from $6.95 to $35. Crazy, huh?
The lucky ones were the people who saw the monetary value of webestates in the late 80’s and all through the 90’s. Hell, even still you can find a virgin domain name that was never thought of or has expired from some poor souls account. But finding really good domain names is harder than finding a dodo bird in New York City. They’re all gone. But I keep searching for them ala George Bush and the WMD’s.
