I’m sick of steroids taking the blame!
I just read this article from msnbc.com regarding the Chris Benoit tragedy where the headline states “Benoit’s testosterone level 10 times the normal” and just below it the smaller headline of “Investigators are unsure if drugs caused wrestler to kill wife, son and self”. At least this article fortifies the fact that steroids had little to no effect on the actual killings.
I’m sick and tired of hearing almost every media news outlet accuse steroids of being the sole reason people commit such acts. I’m positive that the amount of people which carry out terrible and horrific crimes dwarfs the number of crimes committed by steroid users. I’ve never seen or heard of a roid rage that lasted 3 days (in the events of the Benoit case at least). If this had happened to a non-steroid user this would have been labeled as an “unfortunate tragedy” but being the case that Benoit used steroids and was a pro wrestler labels this as a “roid rage incident” in the media.
Why must the media always put steroids under fire? Steroids, if taken for medicinal purposes or in a responsible manner, are not the evil substances they’re made out to be. But as with any pharmaceutical, if abused can lead to many dangerous side effects or death. No different than taking too many pain killers.
I guess it’s more marketable to give steroids a bad rep than to actually explain the facts on the case.
